rosy bubbletecture

A mobile, pavilion-sized bubble will tour the parks of London this summer, hosting a series of events put on by organizations such as Sadler’s Wells, Tate Modern and the Roundhouse.

The pliable structure is an example of “bubbletecture,” an invention of Berlin-based art and architecture collective, RaumlaborBerlin. Bubbletecture, which the group has been experimenting with since 2006, is, “a series of mobile structures that consist of a ‘container’ such as a box, van trailer or even a bicycle, from which an air supported translucent membrane inflates to create a temporary social space. This translucent bubble can squeeze under bridges, wrap around trees or nestle into corners, providing a nomadic, inside/outside space in which people can perform, debate, eat or simply hang out.” The occupants of Raumblabor’s London installation will be audiences and performers. The design is called ROSY (the ballerina), a title that references both the agility of its bubbletecture, and the many dance performances that will be taking place within it.
